Soft sky blue, light and clear, lying in islands across a golden-brown matrix that claims nearly half the face. Fine brown threads cross the wide blue pools at the round end; toward the point the blue breaks into small webbed islands, each traced in brown. The polish is clean, the dome low and gentle on a slender pear. The back is ground flat, blue and brown, with faint lapping lines in the matrix.
Number 8 turquoise, from the Number 8 mine in Eureka County, near Carlin, Nevada. First mined in 1929, it is known for spiderweb turquoise in golden-brown to black matrix, light to deep blue; the mine is now closed to turquoise and worked for gold, so its stone is scarce.
Standard grade, stabilized and unbacked. It is ready for a silversmith to set.
Its long, slender line is made for a pendant.
