Number 8 Turquoise — Golden Spiderweb Oval

$90one of one · available

Pale robin's-egg blue, soft and even, with a few yellow-green islands toward the lower end, gathered in one band down the length of the oval. A fine golden-brown spiderweb runs through it, cell by cell, and on either side the caramel host rock opens wide and warm. Low dome, clean glassy polish. The back, left natural, carries the same band of blue, with a small rough spot at one edge.

Number 8 turquoise, from the Number 8 mine in Eureka County, near Carlin, Nevada. First mined in 1929, it is known for spiderweb turquoise in golden-brown to black matrix, light to deep blue; the mine is now closed to turquoise and worked for gold, so its stone is scarce.

High-grade, stabilized and unbacked, ready for a silversmith to set.

It would sit well in a pendant or a bolo, where the whole web can be seen.
